Running a home standby generator in manual mode
A homeowner may want to run their generator in manual mode for testing purposes or to extend the exercise duration manually. If generator is not registered, it will only operate in Manual mode.
Environment
This article applies to Generac home standby generators that have an EVO 1 or EVO 2 controller (Guardian series): What is the Evolution controller for Generac home standby generators?
To run a home standby generator in manual mode:
- Go to the generator and press the OFF button once.
- Turn off the Main Line Circuit Breaker (MLCB) on the generator.
- Press the MANUAL button once. This will start the generator.
Note: The exercise cycle is factory set to five minutes and cannot be changed. To run the generator longer, you must run it manually. - Allow the generator to run for a few moments. You can run it for as long as you feel comfortable with.
- Press the OFF button once again.
- Press the AUTO button once to return the generator to automatic mode.
- If your generator is monitored by Mobile Link, the status should update in the app, though it may take some time for the change to reflect.
