A ping is a Controller Functionality used to check whether the generator can reach and communicate with the Mobile LInk Servers. It works by sending a small packet of data to relevant Mobile Link Server locations and waiting for a response. If the server locations are reachable and responding, it sends a reply back to the generator.
A ping can be used as a way to verify stable communication between a generator and the Mobile Link Services. To send a ping from the generator controller:
1. Go to the generator location, unlock, and lift the lid to the generator.
2. Press OFF on the control panel
3. use the arrow key to scroll until WIFI is highlighted and flashing.
4. Press the up arrow until PING - ENTER TO SEND is displayed, then press ENTER.
5. Wait a moment, a ping status will appear after about a minute. Ping statuses may contain:
- Ping successful: The generator was able to communicate successfully with Mobile Link services
- Ping failed: The generator was unable to communicate with the your router, or the ping could not reach Mobile Link's servers.
- Ping time out: Ping was unsuccessful / took too long for the generator to communicate.
Note: A successful ping indicates that the generator was able to communicate with some of the commonly required resources for Mobile Link Services, however, does not guarantee access to all required services. Ping responses should be used to show communication issues, and not be used as an indication of full successful access.
