Battery replacement procedures vary depending on the specific model and size of the generator.  The complete battery replacement process for your specific generator model can be found in the Battery Replacement section of your Owner’s Manual. however, replacement processes commonly include:

1. Disconnect the Negative battery terminal (Black battery wire) first
2. Disconnect the Positive battery terminal (Red Battery wire) second

 
Note: ALWAYS remove the negative battery terminal first because it is connected to the generator's ground, and removing it first reduces the risk of a short circuit occurring if a metal tool accidentally touches the positive terminal or other metal parts of the generator.

3. Remove any hardware that may secure the battery in place.
4. Remove battery from the battery tray
5. Install a new battery in the battery tray
6. Re-install any hardware that is used to secure the battery in place.
7. Attach the Positive battery terminal (Red Battery wire) first
8. Attach the Negative battery terminal (Black Battery wire) second

 
Note: ALWAYS reattach the negative battery terminal second because it is connected to the generator's ground, and removing it first reduces the risk of a short circuit occurring if a metal tool accidentally touches the positive terminal or other metal parts of the generator.
