Read the manual thoroughly and understand all of the instructions, cautions, and warnings before using this equipment. If any section of the manual is not understood, contact your nearest authorized dealer, or contact Generac Customer Service at 1-888-436-3722 (1-888-GENERAC), or www.generac.com with any questions or concerns.

Which fuel does my portable generator use?

All Generac portable generators are equipped with 4-stroke engines that require clean, fresh, unleaded gasoline. It's important to use gasoline with a minimum rating of 87 octane and no more than 10% ethanol (with the exception of the diesel XD5000E, see below).

  • E85 fuel should never be used.
  • Do not use a fuel and oil mixture.
  • Never modify a generator to run on alternative fuels.
  • Any modification to an engine's fuel system will put the generator's warranty at risk.

Always consult the user manual to ensure proper operation of your Generac portable generator. To locate the user manual for your model, see: Where can I download a user manual for my Generac portable generator?

Tips for refueling your portable generator

  • Do not overfill the fuel tank. Fill to 1/2" inch from the top of the tank to allow for fuel expansion
  • Overfilling may cause fuel to spill into the engine causing fire or explosion
  • Do not use old fuel that has expired (30-90 day shelf life)
  • If storing fuel, use a fuel stabilizer to slow the degradation of the fuel during storage
