Cold weather accessories
Our home standby generators are designed and tested to operate in extreme conditions, from -20 °F (-29°C) to 122°F (50° C) to deliver reliable back up power when you need it most. However, extremely cold weather and its related environmental stressors can impact the performance of a home standby generator.

This article applies to 10 kW - 26 kW Guardian series generators
Installation
- In addition to installing a battery with higher CCA (cold cranking amps), cold weather accessories are recommended in regions where temperatures regularly fall below 32° F (25° C).
- When installing any cold weather item, it is required that the generator's oil be replaced with either Generac's proprietary 5W-20 full synthetic oil, or 5W-30 full synthetic oil.
- The connection points for cold weather accessories vary. Consult the owner's manual for complete installation instructions. Or, contact a Generac service dealer for help with installation.
- All of the cold weather accessories below turn on when the temperature drops to 40 °F (4°C) or below, and turn off when the temperature reaches 55 °F (13°C)
