Finding the manufacturing date

The manufacturing date for many serialized Generac products can be found on the product data tag. Product documentation, such as an owner's manual, can also be found by using the product lookup page.

Note: This article is intended to help owners locate the manufacturing date for most current Generac products, but it is not exhaustive. Due to the wide range of products and long manufacturing history, manufacturing dates may not be displayed the same way on all products.

Applies to most serialized Generac products, excluding commercial and industrial generators.

Reference the data tag

Depending on the product and the year it was manufactured, the manufacturing date may be printed on the product data tag. In most cases, the data tag is a sticker that also contains the product model number and serial number.

Note: NXG model generators may have a small sticker containing only a QR code and serial number. This is not the primary data tag referenced in this article and is not the label to check for the manufacturing date.

Most home standby generators have a primary data tag that displays the generator serial number, model number, production date, and additional information. They also include a fuel tag that displays the generator serial number. The fuel tag is typically located on the rear exterior of the generator enclosure near the fuel inlet pipe.

The manufacturing date may be labeled as PROD DATE or MANUFACTURING DATE on the primary data tag. The eight-digit number that follows represents the date of manufacture. For example, 20180621 represents a manufacturing date of 06/21/2018.

If looking for an owner's manual, specifications, frequently asked questions, how-to videos, or other product documentation, use the product lookup page and enter the product's serial number, model number, or ordering SKU. For some products, the full model number may be required. For example, model 7259 may need to be entered as G0072590.
