This article explains that some pre-2016 Guardian-series home standby generators had an external power outlet that only becomes energized when the generator is running. Outlet on home standby generators

Some older Guardian-series generators featured a power outlet on the exterior housing of the generator. The receptacle on the generator is only powered during generator operation. When starting the generator, there should be no appliances or cords connected to the receptacle. There should also be no appliances or cords connected to the receptacle when turning the generator off. Do not attempt to power appliances or items with this receptacle during the exercise function.
