Overview

The Power Zone 410 controller can display its installed hardware and firmware versions from the front panel. This article explains how to navigate the controller menus to view the firmware information.

Steps to view firmware information

1. Verify the controller is powered on

   • Confirm the controller display is lit and showing the normal Home or Status screen (for example, status, date/time, and ambient temperature).

2. Open the Info screen

   • Use the navigation arrows on the front panel to move between the main screens.
   • Scroll until you reach the Info screen. The Info screen menu will show options such as Alarm Log, Run Log, Maintenance Log, and General.
     
     

3. Select the General info pages

   • With General highlighted, press the ENTER button to open the General Info sub-pages.
   • Use the navigation arrows to move between the General Info pages.

4. Navigate to the firmware information page

   • Page 1 typically shows generator activation status, serial number, and run hours.
   • Page 2 shows battery condition.
   • Continue scrolling to General Info – Page 3. This page lists the controller’s hardware and firmware versions.
     
     

5. Read and record the firmware details

   • On General Info Page 3, note the following fields as needed:
   • Hardware V – Controller hardware version
   • Bootloader V – Bootloader version
   • Firmware V – Main controller firmware version
   • Firmware Build – Build identifier for the installed firmware

Additional notes

Note: The General Info menu also includes additional pages for ECU, EEPROM, and I/O Extender versions (if equipped). These may be helpful when working with Generac Technical Support or an authorized service dealer.

How firmware updates work on the Power Zone 410 controller

Firmware updates for the Power Zone 410 controller are performed through the controller’s USB configuration interface. However, updating firmware requires access to specialized dealer-level menus and tools that are not available to end users. For safety, configuration integrity, and regulatory compliance, firmware updates must be completed by a Generac Industrial Authorized Service Dealer (IASD).

Overview of the firmware update process

• Firmware files are loaded onto a USB flash drive prepared by a dealer.
• The USB drive is inserted into the USB port on the front of the Power Zone 410 controller.
• A dealer-only menu option—Firmware Update—is accessed within the Settings → Dealer screens.
• The controller validates the firmware package and performs the update. During the upgrade, the controller may reboot and temporarily disable generator operation.

Important notes for end users

Note: End users cannot perform firmware updates themselves. Firmware upgrades require dealer credentials and access to restricted menus that prevent accidental misconfiguration of the generator’s control logic.

• If a firmware update is needed—for example, to resolve a known issue or enable support for newer components—the update must be completed by a Generac IASD.
• Dealers may also use the Power Zone 410 Service Tool software, which provides additional configuration and diagnostic functionality not available through the front panel.
• During a firmware update, the unit will not be available for standby operation. It is normal for the controller to reboot one or more times while the update completes.

When to request a firmware update

Contact an authorized dealer if:

• Generac Technical Support recommends a firmware update during troubleshooting.
• Your generator exhibits behavior that may be resolved by updated controller logic (for example, communication updates, sensor improvements, or changes to exercise behavior).
• A dealer identifies that your controller is operating on a superseded firmware version.

For safety and reliability, firmware should only be updated when needed and only by qualified personnel with access to the necessary dealer tools and menu permissions.
