An alternator in a generator is a component that generates electrical power by converting mechanical energy into electrical energy. It works by using a magnetic field and a conductor to generate an alternating current (AC) output. The alternator is a key component in a generator and is responsible for producing the electrical power that the generator delivers to its output.

Alternators

An alternator consists of a rotor and a stator.
 

Rotor

• The rotor is made of Copper and Steel and is induced with Direct Current (DC) to make an electromagnet.

• The rotor is driven by the engine's crankshaft.
  
  

Stator

• The stator is made of copper windings (conductors)

• The stator remains stationary
  
  

How Does It Work?

• The alternator turns the engine's mechanical energy into electrical energy in the form of Alternating Current (AC).

• As the engine turns the rotor, the rotor’s magnetic field passing through the stator’s windings induces voltage into the stator windings, and electricity is delivered to the generator’s main line circuit breaker (MLCB).

• In a direct current (DC) circuit, electricity is from in one direction. And an alternating current (AC) circuit electricity periodically changes direction. while our home appliances run on AC power, some devices such as cell phones, flashlights, and hybrid electric vehicles run on DC power.
