Android and iOS permissions for Mobile Link

The Mobile Link Android and iOS apps require location and notification permissions in order to provide full functionality. Notification permissions allow the app to send push notifications that communicate the generator's status and events. Location access allows the app to search for available networks.

In most cases, the app will prompt a user for these permissions the first time it is used; however, if a user is not prompted or if the permissions are initially denied, it may be necessary to access these settings on the device to allow access manually.

 

Environment

This article applies to the Mobile Link for Generators app available for Android and iOS devices. This article does not apply to the web app available at app.mobilelinkgen.com.

Note: The following steps illustrate the general steps required to access these settings on most Android and Apple devices. Due to variations in phone interfaces and iOS versions, there may be slight differences in the labeling and location of specific menu items.

Allowing location permissions on an Android device

 

Note: You can also disable Pause app activity if unused from this screen. If you do not use the app often, leaving this setting enabled may revoke notification permissions, which may result in missed generator status notifications.

 

Allowing notification permissions on an Android device

1. From the home screen on the mobile device, swipe down from the top of the screen to display the notifications pane. Tap the gear icon in the top right corner of the screen.
2. The Android Settings page will be displayed.
3. Scroll down and select the Apps menu item.
4. The App list is displayed. Scroll down on the Apps list to the Mobile Link app. The Mobile Link app info page displays.
5. Scroll down and select the Notifications menu item.
6. The Mobile Link app notifications page will display. If the Show notifications permission is not already allowed, toggle the slider to enable notifications. Toggle Sound and Vibrate to On.
7. Exit the Settings app.
8. Notification permissions have now been successfully allowed.

Allowing location permissions on an iOS device

1. From the home screen on the mobile device, open the Settings app.
2. Tap Privacy & Security.
3. Tap Location Services.
4. If needed, turn on Location Services.
5. Scroll down and tap Mobile Link.
6. Under Allow Location Access, select While Using the App.
7. If displayed and desired, leave Precise Location turned on to allow the app to use your specific location. If Precise Location is turned off, the app will receive only your approximate location.
8. Exit the Settings app.
9. Location permissions have now been successfully allowed.

Allowing notification permissions on an iOS device

1. From the home screen on the mobile device, open the Settings app.
2. Tap Notifications.
3. Scroll down and tap Mobile Link.
4. If it is not already enabled, turn on Allow Notifications.
5. Choose how you want notifications to appear, such as Lock Screen, Notification Center, and Banners.
6. Turn on Sounds and Badges if you want those notification types enabled.
7. Exit the Settings app.
8. Notification permissions have now been successfully allowed.
