Home standby wire sizing information

Control wire recommended length and sizes for copper conductors are located in the installation manual. Additionally, recommended wire sizes (copper or aluminum) for the power wire terminals, neutral lug, and ground lug can also be found in the installation manual. 

Where can I find the installation manual?

To find a generator's installation model, use the product lookup tool as shown in the How Do I Find a Copy of My Home Standby Generator Owner's Manual, Spec Sheets, or Installation Manual? article.

Generac customer support cannot provide any more guidance in regard to wire sizing other than what is listed in the installation manual provided with the unit.

 

Does the generator come with the wiring?

No. There is a wide range of wire lengths necessary to connect the generator to the transfer switch, which is determined by the unique site installation requirements. Wiring is supplied by the installer and paid for by the customer as part of the cost of installation.

What isn't in the installation manual?

Sizing for conduit, power leads, or other wiring connections must be done by a certified dealer or certified electrician, and all wiring needs to meet all applicable local, state, and national codes.
