GB Series power station fault lights

This article describes the meaning and underlying causes of fault lights (or fault warnings) of GB series portable power stations, and provides instructions for resolving a variety of operating issues.

 

Environment

This article applies to the GB1000 and GB2000 Portable Power Stations.

 

Fault lights

Generac GB Series Portable Power Stations have a display panel with a fault light warning (9), a low temperature warning (10), a high temperature warning (11), and a flashing AC/DC warning (5/6) which are designed to illuminate when a problem is detected.

 

Note: The Power Station is designed to automatically shut down after 60 minutes of idle operation to conserve the battery.

If a fault occurs, the AC power will turn off, and the fault light will flash for 10 seconds.

 

Solid fault light

A solid fault light (9) indicates the power station is overloaded. This can cause damage to the power station and connected electrical devices.

To resolve:

• Disconnect some of the appliances from the power station and restart it.
• The total wattage demands of all appliances connected to the power station should not exceed its maximum power capacity (1600 watts).
• Do not use the power station to power appliances that require more than 1600 watts. This will result in an overload fault.

For example, if a miter saw requires 1,800 watts, you should not be using the power station to power it.

 

Flashing fault light

A flashing fault light (9) indicates the unit is defective. This problem can only be resolved by a Generac authorized service dealer.

 

Low temperature warning

If the power station is being operated in a cold environment (below -4°F or -20°C), the cold temperature warning (10) may illuminate.

To resolve:

• Move the power station to a warmer environment. Depending on the temperature, it may take some time for it to fully warm up and be ready for use.

 

High temperature warning

If the power station is being operated in a hot environment (above 104°F or 40°C), the high temperature warning (11) may illuminate. This error may also be caused by dirty or clogged vents, or a defective cooling fan.

To resolve:

• Move the power station to a cooler environment. Depending on the temperature, it may take some time for it to fully cool down and be ready for use.
• If the vents are clogged, power the unit off and gently clean them with a clean and dry microfiber cloth.
• If the cooling fan is found to be defective, contact a Generac authorized service dealer.

 

Flashing AC/DC warning

If the AC or DC display icons are flashing, this may indicate an issue with the power station circuits.

To resolve:

• If the AC display icon is flashing, hold the orange AC button (2) for three seconds to reset circuit.
• If the DC display icon is flashing, hold the orange DC button (5) for three seconds to reset circuit.

 

Additional Troubleshooting

Most issues can be resolved by identifying the symptom and following the steps provided:

 

Unit is not producing power

1. Hold ON/OFF power button on the power station.

2. Press and hold AC or DC button for 3 seconds to reset circuit.

3. Reset the circuit breaker on the side of the unit:

 

Unit will not charge

1. Confirm power source is compatible with the power station.

2. Confirm plugs are firmly connected

3. If the fault light on the displayis flashing, contact a Generac authorized service dealer.

 

Unit will not start

1. Hold ON/OFF button for 3 seconds to power ON the power station.

2. Charge the power station.

 

Unit starts, then shuts down

If there is no load present on the unit (or if nothing is connected to it) the display will sleep. Additionally, the power station automatically shuts down after 60 minutes of inactivity.

To resolve:

1. Hold ON/OFF button to power on the power station.

2. Ensure AC or DC output is turned ON, and load is connected, or devices are plugged in.

 

Wireless charging not working

 1. Press DC button to power on the circuit.

2. Center device on wireless charging pad.

3. Confirm device is compatible with wireless charging.

4. Remove case or enclosure from device and try again.
