Core Power vs. PowerPact: Modes and Exercise Settings

Core Power and PowerPact generators share similar functions but use different control panels to manage modes and exercise. This article explains how each panel operates and highlights the key differences owners should know.

Overview

Core Power generators were 7 kW air-cooled units manufactured approximately 2007–2013. PowerPact is the replacement model, a 7.5 kW air-cooled generator manufactured approximately 2013–2024.

Auto, Manual, and Off Modes

The controller style differs by model. Core Power uses a toggle-style rocker switch to select modes. PowerPact uses dedicated buttons on the control panel for each mode. Move the rocker (Core Power) or press the corresponding button (PowerPact) to select the desired status.

• Auto – Automatically starts and supplies power to the home when utility power is lost. See How Do I Put My Home Standby Generator Into Auto Mode? for more information.
• Manual – Starts the engine immediately, but the generator will not transfer load to the home unless utility power has failed.
• Off – The unit will not start automatically when utility power is lost.

Exercise

Exercise is not a programmable schedule within the control panel menu on these models. To adjust the exercise time, press and hold the Set Exercise button on the desired day and time. After a few seconds, the generator will start and complete an exercise. The unit will then exercise every 7 days for approximately 12 minutes.

Other features

• 7.5 A automotive-style fuse – Protects cranking and running circuits. The engine will not start if this fuse is blown or missing.
