Because of the different geometries of the tanks, there are different calculations used for different types of tanks. Assigning a tank orientation gives accurate tank-level data.  If a tank is underground it is most likely horizontal. This is confirmed by looking at the gauge face - there should be some small writing indicating tank compatibility.
