Colored dot markings on extension cords

Some Generac portable generator extension cords include colored dot markings. These markings help indicate the need to balance electrical loads when connecting devices to the generator.

Note: Extension cord dot colors are not always red and blue. Some extension cords may have green dots. Colors may vary.

When connecting multiple electrical devices, use outlets with different colored dots when possible. For example, if connecting two electrical devices, plug one device into an outlet marked with a red dot and the other device into an outlet marked with a blue dot. This helps balance the electrical loads on the generator to prevent overloading.

This guidance only applies to portable generator models that include extension cords with colored dot markings.
