1. Run the generator for a few minutes to allow the oil to heat up and become more viscous with the heat of the engine. 2. Wait until the engine is cool enough that it can be touched. 3. Remove the oil drain plug. 4. Drain the oil, then replace the drain plug. 5. Refill the crank case with oil to the full line (H). Do not overfill.
Cleaning the Air Filter
1. Unscrew and remove the cover and filter. 2. Clean the filter with soapy water. 3. Squeeze with a clean cloth, and keep it flat to dry.
Running the Generator Monthly
It is strongly recommended that a generator is run once monthly for approximately 30 minutes with a load that includes an appliance that uses a motor (such as a box fan). This ensures both the alternator and engine are exercised.
If running the generator monthly is not possible:
Run it at least every three months for 30 minutes.
Use a fuel stabilizer.
This ensures the generator's carburetor does not develop issues due to generator non-use.
Perform valve adjustments. It is recommended to contact a certified dealer to perform this task, as improper adjustments could cause damage to the generator. See the How Can I Find a Generac Service Dealer in My Area? article for more information.
