Generac home standby oil filters

Replacing the generator oil filter is a standard maintenance task that can be performed by the generator owner or by an authorized service dealer. The oil filter is an important maintenance item that should be replaced at regular intervals per the maintenance schedule listed in your generator's user manual:

This article applies to Generac home standby generators.

Finding the recommended oil filter part number in the user manual

1. Locate your generator's user manual using the product lookup tool on Generac.com.

2. Once the user manual is downloaded, open the manual in PDF viewing software (such as Adobe or a web browser).

3. Perform a keyword search for "oil filter", "filter", or "recommended oil filter" to find matching words in the document. Performing a keyword search will vary by device, but in Adobe Acrobat and most browsers that command is "Ctrl + F".

4. Oil filter part numbers are listed in your generator's user manual as shown in the example below. Note that this image is provided only as an example and comes from the Guardian series 10-26kw user manual, and generator owners should always consult their generator's user manual.

Note: If you aren't sure which part number applies to your generator model, or do not feel comfortable performing your own generator oil maintenance, contact your local authorized dealer or Generac support:

Sourcing the oil filter part

Use the oil filter part number to search the internet for online sellers of Generac home standby parts.

Generac also sells maintenance parts and kits on Generac.ordertree.com. Generac's Ordertree site allows you to use your generator's model number to find parts that fit your generator: Where can I source parts for my home standby generator?

Can I substitute another similar filter?

While many oil filter cross-reference tools exist, we cannot verify their accuracy of alternatives or the performance of alternative oil filters. The part number recommended in the generator's user manual has been tested with and verified to meet the generator's operating needs.
