Field Pro: offline mode preparation

Generac certified service professionals should follow this process to prepare for a service visit to a generator location without network connectivity (no cellular or Wi-Fi connection). Offline preparation allows you to securely connect to and work on a generator without an active internet connection for a limited period.

Note: Registering a generator is not activating a generator for warranty. This process allows the warranty activation to occur during site visit and commissioning.

Environment

This article applies to:

  • Field Pro mobile app (latest version) on iOS or Android.
  • Next-Generation air-cooled home standby generators with a Power Zone 200 control panel.
  • This procedure is usually performed by the installer, not an end user.

Before you begin

Procedure

  1. Open Field Pro and tap Work on a Home Standby Generator from the main menu.
  2. Select Prepare for a Future Visit.
  3. Understand that preparations only apply to your user account and your device. If multiple technicians will access the generator offline, each person must prepare separately.
  4. Search for the generator by serial number and confirm the connectivity accessory.
  5. If the generator is not registered, tap Register Now to complete the registration process.
  6. Once prepared, review the access window displayed on screen. This shows how long you can interact with the generator offline. The maximum window is 48 hours. You can connect to and work on the generator without a network connection for the duration of the access window. If the window expires, you will need to repeat the preparation process while connected to the internet.
  7. If needed, refresh the access window closer to your visit to maximize available offline time.
Important: Installers and technicians must disable Service Mode and return the generator to AUTO after service is complete or the generator will not start automatically.

Additional details

  • This process downloads all firmware updates for the generator hardware and will apply those updates during on-site commissioning.
  • The app uses register.generac.com to perform the registration.
  • Generators must be registered before they can be automatically activated and set into AUTO mode.
  • Once on-site commissioning is complete, the generator can be activated for warranty.
