Control panel swap
Changing the control panel does not disable or enable a generator's ability to use a Mobile Link device. It is not possible to swap a control panel for a different controller version that was not originally compatible with a generator model. For example, a homeowner could not upgrade a generator with an Evolution 1.0 controller to an Evolution 2.0 controller. These controllers have different pinouts. If a replacement controller is installed in the generator, the control panel does not require registration once installed.
Note: Generac support does not recommend swapping the control panel with a control panel from another generator. This will create a mismatch of information in Generac's registration system and may lead to complications with successful generator registration. If you are a Generac Certified Servicing Dealer, contact Generac support to follow proper warranty and repair procedures for control panel replacement.
Do I need to re-register the generator after swapping the panel?
You do not need to re-register after swapping the panel, as long as the controller was bought from Generac and the panel wasn't taken off of a pre-registered unit.
