Generac Load Manager LED states

This article provides information on the LED states of the Load Manager. 
 

Environment

This article applies to 50A and 100A Generac Load Managers. 

Note: Previous versions of the Load Manager were formerly known as Smart Management Modules (SMM).

Generator

The Load Manager detected an overload and shed its load. This state only occurs in generator mode or during a first-time utility power-up for five minutes of initial operation. 

Lockout
(30 minutes)

3-second flash

(3 On - 3 Off)

 

Generator 

The Load Manager detected an overload while trying to recover from a shed situation. It identified the offending load and disabled operation for 30 minutes to allow other loads to operate. This state only occurs in generator mode. 

Lockout Switch Active

6-second flash 

(6 On - 6 Off)

Generator

The Load Manager output is disabled, and the appliance is not powered while in generator mode. The lockout switch must be ON. See Table 2.

ON 

Utility


The Lockout Switch operates in generator mode only. It has no function in utility mode. The LED is solid, indicating that the contactor is CLOSED and the load is connected. The lockout switch must be ON. See Table 2.

Normal

ON

Generator or Utility


This indicates that the contactor is CLOSED and the appliance has power. This is the default in utility mode. It is also the normal operating state in generator mode when an overload is not detected. 

Test

The test button triggers a typical shed condition and overrides all other states except the generator lockout switches ACTIVE state.

Note: The early version of Load Manager goes into lockout mode. Load is never activated until UTILITY returns.

GENERATOR 


Load Manager operates with standard load shed logic. 
The contactor is OPEN or CLOSED per logic.

UTILITY


Power is available on the Load Manager output (contactor output). 
The contactor is CLOSED.
