Inspect Battery Message
The Inspect Battery alert is a maintenance reminder, not a shut-down alarm. It is a reminder to inspect the battery of the unit.
Environment
This message may occur in Generac air-cooled home standby generators with controller displays.
Cause
The battery is listed as an item on a generator's maintenance schedule. This message will appear after a preconfigured time period. For more information about generator maintenance schedules, see the Where Can I Find the Maintenance Schedule for My Generac Home Standby Generator? article.
On older installations, this can indicate a wiring issue with the T1 circuit. See What Is the Purpose of the Generac Home Standby Generator Control Wires? for more information.
Resolution
Is maintenance required? See the How Do I Inspect the Battery On My Home Standby Generator? article for steps to perform battery maintenance.
Inspect terminals and wiring - For older installations, owners can visually check the terminals for signs of corrosion, debris, or build-up. Wiring at the control panel and transfer switch can also be visually inspected, but not touched, as the T1 circuit is always live with 120v, even when the generator is not providing backup power. If you suspect the issue is caused by a wiring problem, then contact an authorized service dealer. See How Can I Find a Generac Service Dealer in My Area? for more information.
Try testing the battery, if you are comfortable doing so - See the How to perform a battery voltage test on a home standby generator with a multimeter for more information. Most local automotive stores that sell batteries offer free battery testing if an owner does not have the equipment to perform a battery test.
Clear the error and see if it returns - This alert alone will not prevent the unit from starting or operating. To clear this alert, press off, enter twice then auto. This will clear the yellow LED on the side of the generator as well.
