Home standby auxiliary shutdown switch locations
The NEC requires a means of shutting down the engine so that it cannot be restarted without a manual or mechanical reset of the generator start circuits. If there should be an emergency, pushing the auxiliary shutdown button will immediately shut down the generator and an alarm code 2800 will appear. To resolve a 2800 alarm code, see the What Does It Mean When My Generator Displays an Error Code: Auxiliary Shutdown, Code 2800? article.
Environment
This article applies to air-cooled home standby generators from 2018 to the present.
Generators with one auxiliary shutdown switch
Generators with only one auxiliary shutdown switch include the 7.5kW PowerPact and 9kW-11kW.
Note: Units with just one auxiliary shutdown switch will always have it located on the exterior.
PowerPact
Single external auxiliary shutdown switch on the back of the generator's enclosure.
9kW - 11kW
Single external auxiliary shutdown switch on the back of the generator's enclosure.
Generators with two auxiliary shutdown switch
Generators with two auxiliary shutdown switches include all Guardian series air-cooled home standby generators 13kW-26kW 2018 to present.
Note: Units with two auxiliary shutdown switches will always have one located on the exterior and one on the interior
13kW - 26kW
Two auxiliary shutdown switches, one located internally on the dividing panel to the left of the controller, the other will be external, on the back of the generator's enclosure.
