Can the whips on pre-wired EZ switches be lengthened or shortened?

Answer

The factory-installed whips can be shortened, lengthened, removed, or modified in the field and still maintain the UL listing and factory warranty for the transfer switch when installed using NEC-recognized wiring methods and in accordance with NEC and local code requirements.

30-foot whip, where applicable: If a longer run is needed, the whip can be extended or replaced in the field. The generator feeder and control wiring must be installed using appropriate NEC-recognized Chapter 3 wiring methods and in accordance with NEC and local code requirements for the wiring methods used.

2-foot whip, where applicable: If the 2-foot whip must be lengthened, the raceway may no longer be considered a nipple. The replacement or extended raceway must be sized and installed per NEC and local code requirements, including requirements related to raceway fill and conductor derating. Multiple raceways may be needed for code compliance. The 2-foot whip can also be removed and replaced or shortened in the field if needed. It is designed to be installed between the transfer switch and a normal power panelboard.
