Do air-cooled generator controllers need manual updates for Daylight Saving Time?

Environment

• Applies to Generac 60 Hz air-cooled home standby generators (e.g., 10–28 kW models) with Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth®, and/or LTE connectivity.

Issue or Question

Will the controller automatically adjust for Daylight Saving Time (DST), or do I need to update the controller clock manually?

Answer

• Connected units: If the generator is connected to the internet (Wi-Fi or LTE), the controller clock and scheduled exercise typically adjust automatically for DST.
• Offline units: If the generator is not connected to the internet, the controller time does not auto-update. The current date/time must be reset after power/battery disconnects and for DST shifts.

Steps to keep the controller time correct

1. Verify connectivity. During setup, enable Wi-Fi or confirm the unit has cellular (Mobile Link®) connectivity. Connected units will handle DST adjustments.
2. If offline, set the time manually. Use the controller interface or a supported app (e.g., Mobile Link or Field Pro) to set the current date/time. Repeat after any 12 V battery or T1 power disconnect, and after DST changes.
3. Confirm the exercise schedule. Check the configured exercise day/time and frequency (weekly/biweekly/monthly). For offline units, update the schedule time if DST moved the clock.

Note: If Wi-Fi/LTE is not enabled, some controllers require re-entering date/time after removing and reinstalling the controller fuse, or after battery/T1 reconnection.
