How do I use detergent with my pressure washer?

This article describes the process of adding appropriate attachment accessories and making other configurations to the pressure washer to use a liquid cleaning detergent.

How to install the siphon tube and configure the pressure washer for detergent
 

1. Verify a detergent nozzle is installed and PowerDial™ Gun is set to soap setting, if applicable. Detergent cannot be applied with high-pressure nozzles. 

2. Add detergent to the tank and insert the filter end of the siphon tube into the hole in the cap. If no tank is present, insert the filter end into a detergent container/bucket.

3. Attach another end of the siphon tube to the detergent injector port on the pump. Verify siphon tube stays submerged in detergent while in use. Be sure to route the siphon tube away from the muffler to prevent damage. 


 

4. Apply detergent starting at the lower portion of the area and work upward using long, even, overlapping strokes.

5. Flush the siphon system after each use before stopping the engine.

Important note on detergents:

• DO NOT use caustic liquid, such as bleach, with the power washer.

• Use ONLY power washer-safe detergents. 

• When using a detergent, please adhere strictly to the manufacture's guidelines for usage, including recommended dilution ratios and application methods, as no specific ratio is prescribed universally.
