How to set priorities for Generac Load Manager

This guide outlines how to set priorities and ensure that high-priority loads recover first during generator overloads or power outages. It covers assigning priority levels, applying a priority decal to the electrical panel, and recording the priorities for future reference. 

 

Environment 

This article applies to 50A and 100A Generac Load Managers. 
 

Note: Previous versions of Generac Load Mangers were known as Smart Management Modules (SMM)

 

Step-by-step guide

 

1. Understanding priorities

Priority 1: The highest priority load. This load will be the first to recover in the event of a generator overload. 

Priority 8: The lowest priority load. This load will be the last to recover. 

Setting priority determines the timing for three scenarios

• Load recovery Order: The sequence in which loads recover during generator overloads. 

• Outage delay time: the delay time before power returns to each load during an outage. 

• Post-load shed recovery time: The delay time before loads are restored after load shedding. 
   

2. Set priority levels

Determine the priority for each load. 

Note that high-priority 240 VAC loads should be set as the highest priority so that those loads are reviewed first in the event of a generator overload. 

Use the priority dial to set each load priority. 
 

Note: Each Load Manager in an installation must have a different priority. Priority sets the order in which loads recover from a load shed event.
