MLG Network Not Broadcasting

Owners may run into an issue where the MLG network does not appear to broadcast or cannot be detected in the Mobile Link app. This usually occurs after the Set to AP message displays during the setup process.
 

Background

Each generator broadcasts its own SSID (Network Name), known as an MLG (Mobile Link Generator) network. In order to successfully connect the generator to Wi-Fi, the phone with Mobile Link installed must connect to this MLG network. Cause

While there is no specific known cause for this issue, it is possible that interference or performing other setup tasks out of sync may prevent the MLG network from displaying reliably.
 

Resolution

If the MLG network does not broadcast after the Set to AP message is displayed on the generator control panel, rebooting the Wi-Fi Module may help. This does involve removing components from the generator.

Prepare the Generator to Broadcast the MLG Network

If these steps have already been performed, readers can skip to the Reboot the Wi-Fi Module section.

1. Go to the generator, unlock, and raise the cover to the generator.

2. Locate the control panel located on the right side of the open generator, then press the OFF button on the control panel. 

 

 

Note: This step will ensure the generator does not start or run during the Wi-Fi connection process.
 

3. Press the ESCAPE button, to access the control panel's main menu.

4. Using the arrow keys on the control panel, Press the down arrow to select the WIFI or SET UP WIFI menu item, then press the ENTER button.

5. The screen may display multiple options:
 

• If SETUP WIFI? is displayed on the control panel screen, use the arrow keys to select YES if YES is not already displayed, then press the ENTER button.
• If something other than SETUP WIFI? is displayed on the control panel, use the arrow keys to scroll until REDO WIFI SETUP? is displayed. Then, press the ENTER button and use the arrow keys to scroll until YES is displayed, and then press the ENTER button one more time.
• The generator's control panel may display SET TO AP for up to 3 minutes, then display SETUP WIFI NOW!

Note: A timer and a number beginning with MLG will alternate on-screen.  This is normal.  The MLG number will be referenced later in this process, and it may be helpful to write it down. 
 

Reboot the Wi-Fi Module

1. With the top lid open, remove the front enclosure. The front enclosure can be removed, by pulling it up and then out. 

 

2. To access the Wi-Fi module, the intake side panel must be removed. To remove it use an Allen wrench to remove the two mounting screws (B) and the L-Bracket screw (C). Lift the side panel up and away from the generator. 

 

 

3. Remove the Wi-Fi module from port 1, located at the back side of the controller.  

 

4. After 30 seconds, plug it back in. Select Set Up WIFI: Yes
