Inspect battery message

The Inspect Battery alert is a maintenance reminder, not a shutdown alarm. It indicates it is time to inspect the generator battery.

Environment

This message may occur in Generac air-cooled home standby generators.

Overview

• Error code: None
• LED Indicator: Yellow
• Fault: Inspect Battery
• Issue: The battery is listed on the generator's maintenance schedule. This maintenance reminder is triggered by an automated countdown timer. For details, see the maintenance schedule article. In older installations, the inspect battery message may also indicate a wiring issue with the T1 circuit. See this article for more information.

Troubleshooting

Inspect terminals and wiring – On older systems, owners can visually inspect battery terminals for corrosion or debris. An end user may inspect the wiring at the control panel and transfer switch, but do not touch it. The T1 circuit remains live at 120V. If a wiring issue is suspected, contact an authorized service dealer. See how to find a Generac service dealer.

Try testing the battery, if you are comfortable doing so – See the battery voltage test article. Many local automotive stores offer free battery testing if you do not have your own equipment.

Clear the error and see if it returns – This alert will not prevent the generator from running. To clear it:

• For Evolution controllers: Press OFF, ENTER twice, then AUTO.
• For Power Zone 200 controllers: Hold the OFF button for 3 seconds.

If the error cannot be addressed using the above troubleshooting, reach out to a Generac authorized service dealer.
