Next Generation series

Next Generation series generators feature a dual shutoff valve, which works in tandem with the engine's ECM (engine control module) to intelligently monitor and control the generator's fuel supply and demand.

The dual shutoff valve (or fuel regulator) is located behind the generators right side panel as shown:

Guardian series

Guardian series home standby generators use a demand-type fuel regulator. A demand regulator provides fuel as the engine demands it based on the engine's load. It does not adjust the fuel pressure being provided to it.

Note: Demand-type regulators are also used on PowerPact generators.

What is the difference between internal and external fuel regulators?

• Internal fuel regulators exist as part of the generator's fuel system. They are located within the generator and therefore are considered part of the generator system.
• External fuel regulators may be required in certain installations where fuel pressure needs to be controlled at the fuel source. To determine if an external fuel regulator is necessary for your generator installation, we recommend working with a Generac authorized service dealer.

Where can I purchase a fuel regulator?

• Internal fuel regulators may be purchased through a Generac dealer or Ordertree. To find the correct part number for your generator's fuel regulator, visit the product lookup page and enter your generator's model number or serial number. Then, look for an exploded view document, which will list the part number for the internal fuel regulator.
• External fuel regulators may be purchased from a Generac dealer, a licensed plumber, or your gas provider. Because external fuel regulators are not part of the generator system, we do not provide part numbers for external fuel regulators.
