What do the LED lights mean on a PowerPact controller (control panel)?

Environment

This article applies to Generac 7.5kW PowerPact air-cooled home standby generators with the AUTO / OFF / MANUAL button interface and LED indicators on the control panel.

Where to find the LEDs

The control panel is located under the controller lid. The panel includes:

• Alarm LEDs (A)
• Warning LEDs (B)
• Operation Mode Buttons and LEDs (C)

Mode LED behavior (AUTO / MANUAL / OFF)

• AUTO (green): Generator is set to automatic operation.
• MANUAL (blue): Generator is set to manual start mode.
• OFF (red): Generator is shut down and will not start automatically.

Note: The active mode LED also indicates utility presence. When utility power is available, the active LED is typically solid. When utility power is lost, the active LED typically flashes.

Alarm, warning, and maintenance LEDs (what each light means)

PowerPact uses LED indicators to show alarms, warnings, and maintenance due reminders. Some LEDs are shared—the meaning changes depending on whether the LED is flashing or solid.

Temperature / Low Oil Level	Temperature levels are excessive (High Temperature alarm).	Engine oil level is insufficient (Low Oil Level alarm).
Charger Warning / Battery Problem	Charging problem exists (Charger Warning).	Battery problem exists (Battery Problem).
RPM Sensor Alarm	—	RPM sensor problem exists.
Overcrank Alarm	—	Overcranking condition exists.
Speed Alarm	Overspeed condition exists.	Underspeed condition exists.
Maintenance Due	20-hour break-in maintenance due.	1 year / 100 hour maintenance due.

What to do when an LED is on

• If an alarm or warning LED turns on, check Mobile Link (if installed) and/or your generator documentation for details. While some alarms or warnings can be resolved independently, others may require service from a Generac Independent Authorized Service Dealer (IASD): What Error Codes Do I Need to Call a Dealer For?
• After the issue is resolved, you may be able to clear the indication at the controller.

Clearing an alarm or warning LED

1. Press the OFF button to clear the alarm or warning condition from the control panel.
2. Press OFF again to turn off the flashing or solid indicator LED.

Note: Clearing the LED does not correct the underlying problem. If the LED returns, the issue must be diagnosed and corrected by a Generac IASD.

If no LEDs are lit

If the control panel LEDs are all off, one common cause is a missing or failed 7.5 amp control panel fuse. Remove and inspect the control panel fuse. If it is bad, replace. If the fuse is replaced, the controller will typically run an LED self-test.

For PowerPact units, generator activation consists of a sequence of six (6) button presses using the AUTO, OFF and SET EXERCISE buttons. When to contact a service dealer

If an alarm or warning reoccurs after clearing it, or if you are not comfortable troubleshooting electrical components, contact a Generac IASD using the dealer locator.
