What Error Codes Do I Need to Call a Dealer For?

Most error codes listed below exceed typical DIY troubleshooting and may require a Generac Independent Authorized Service Dealer (IASD). Generac IASDs can be located using the Dealer Locator Tool.

Note: For basic troubleshooting, search for an article using the error code name or number. If an error code in the table below has a dedicated troubleshooting article, the displayed alarm will appear as a blue link. 

Environment

This article applies to Generac air-cooled home standby generators.

 Depending on the generator model, error codes will be displayed on either the LCD display of the generator's controller or in the Mobile Link or Field Pro applications.

Note: not all generator controllers have an LCD screen. The generator's LED indicator light will be either yellow or red depending on the error.

Troubleshooting

Follow the below steps to determine if your error code requires service from a dealer:
 

1. Go to the front of the generator, lift the lid, and locate the controller on the top right side of the generator.
2. Clear the alarm following the procedure for your generator model:
   1. Next Generation Series: Press and hold the OFF button for three seconds.
   2. Guardian Series: Press the red OFF button, then the ENTER button.
3.  Attempt to start the generator in manual mode by pressing the MANUAL button.
4. If the error code returns, dealer service is required: How Can I Find a Generac Service Dealer in My Area?

Note: If the generator starts successfully in manual mode, it will continue to run until shut down with the AUTO or OFF button.

Overload Remove Load	ALARM	2100	The generator has experienced an overload alarm. Please contact a dealer.

Very Low Battery	ALARM	2751	The battery charge level has fallen below the acceptable level. Please inspect or replace the battery. If necessary, please contact a dealer.

Overload Cooldown	WARNING	7000	The generator has experienced an overload and is in cool down mode. If condition persists, contact a dealer.
