Exercise schedule features in Mobile Link (Basic vs Premium)

Mobile Link makes it possible for you to set your generator’s exercise schedule remotely, depending on your Mobile Link subscription plan and the controller on your generator. This article explains what is supported for each plan and controller, and how to use the available options.

Important: Exercise duration cannot be changed on most controllers. Only generators with a PowerZone 200 controller support changing the exercise duration (with a Premium subscription).

Environment

This article applies to Generac home standby generators that have a Mobile Link connectivity device and are enrolled in a Mobile Link account. Feature availability depends on the Mobile Link plan and the generator controller.

What features are supported?

Basic Mobile Link plan

  • PowerZone 200 (Next Generation series): You can remotely modify the exercise schedule (frequency/day/time) in the Mobile Link app/website.
  • Evolution 1.0 / Evolution 2.0 (Guardian series): Remote exercise schedule changes in Mobile Link are not supported on the Basic plan. You can still change the exercise schedule at the generator controller.
  • Nexus / Pre-Nexus: Remote exercise schedule changes are not supported on the Basic plan. You can still change the exercise schedule at the generator controller. See How Do I Set the Scheduled Generator Exercise Date and Time? for more information.

Premium Mobile Link plan

  • PowerZone 200 (Next Generation series):
    • Remotely modify the exercise schedule (frequency/day/time)
    • Use Exercise now and transfer power (where available)
    • Change exercise duration using the Exercise duration slider
  • Evolution 2.0: Remotely modify the exercise schedule (frequency/day/time)
  • Evolution 1.0 / Nexus / Pre-Nexus: Remote exercise schedule updates may be limited or may not report accurately due to controller communication limitations (see notes in the steps below).

Note: If your plan/controller combination does not support a remote feature, you can still set the exercise schedule directly from the generator controller. See How Do I Set the Scheduled Generator Exercise Date and Time? for more information.

If your plan and generator controller support remote scheduling, you can change the exercise frequency, day, and time in the Mobile Link app.

1. Launch the Mobile Link mlicon.jpg app.

2. Tap the Dashboard dashboard.png icon to view connected devices.

3. Tap the tile for the generator you want to configure.

6. Make the desired changes (frequency, day, and time).

7. Tap Save.

Note: After you save changes, the app may show a status such as “Scheduling Exercise Cycle” until the generator reports back and confirms the update. Generators with Evolution 2.0 control panels typically update and report exercise schedule settings reliably. Generators with Evolution 1.0, Nexus, and Pre-Nexus control panels may have limitations in how they communicate and may not set or report the schedule accurately.

Modify the exercise schedule using the Mobile Link website

If your plan and controller support remote scheduling, you can change the exercise schedule (frequency/day/time) using the Mobile Link website.

  1. Log in to your Mobile Link account: https://app.mobilelinkgen.com
  2. Click the tile for the generator you want to configure.
  3. Click the Exercise Schedule tab.
  4. Click Update.
Note: After you save changes, the website may show an update-in-progress message until the generator reports back and confirms the change. Generators with Evolution 2.0 control panels typically update and report reliably. Generators with Evolution 1.0, Nexus, and Pre-Nexus control panels may have limitations and may not set or report the schedule accurately.
  5. Choose the desired schedule selections and click Save.

Exercise now and transfer power (Premium + PowerZone 200)

This feature tests the transfer switch operation and generator power output to confirm the system is operating correctly. A standard exercise typically runs the engine without transferring the home to generator power. Exercising with Power Transfer means the generator will exercise and perform a power transfer from utility to the backup generator.

Availability: This setting is available to Premium subscribers with Next Generation Series generators that have a PowerZone 200 controller.

What to expect: This will schedule an exercise cycle within the next 15 minutes. Your home will briefly lose power as it transfers from utility power to generator power.

  1. From Exercise Settings, tap Exercise now next to Exercise now and transfer power.
  2. Read the warnings and confirm before tapping Yes, exercise now. To cancel, tap No, cancel.
  3. Wait while the command is sent to the generator. It may take up to 15 minutes before the exercise with transfer begins.

Change exercise duration (Premium + PowerZone 200)

Availability: Generators with a PowerZone 200 controller can change exercise duration using the Mobile Link app with a Premium subscription. For plan details, see What are the available Mobile Link subscription plans?

  1. From Exercise Settings, use the Exercise duration slider to adjust the exercise time.
  2. Tap Save.

Modify exercise over Bluetooth (PowerZone 200, within range)

Note: Bluetooth changes require you to be within 10 feet of the generator. This option is only for PowerZone 200 controllers while within Bluetooth range.

  1. Place the generator into service mode.
  2. Log in to the Mobile Link app.
  3. Tap the generator card.
  4. Under Settings, tap Exercise Settings.
  5. When prompted, tap I’m ready to connect.
  6. Allow Bluetooth access when prompted.
  7. In Exercise Settings, make the desired changes (day of week, time of day, and/or frequency).
  8. Tap Save, then disconnect from Bluetooth.
