Configure Wi-Fi backup for the Cellular Connectivity Device

Environment

This feature is available in Mobile Link app version 3.13 for generators using the Connectivity Cellular Accessory device. See compatibility to view an image of the device. Wi-Fi is a backup to cellular connectivity and will switch only if no cellular network is available.

Procedure: Set up Wi-Fi in the Mobile Link app (generator owners)

Note: The Connectivity Cellular Accessory device must be linked and added to the generator in your account before you can set up Wi-Fi backup. If this is a new enrollment and no device has been added, log in to your account and add the device. If you are switching from another device to this one, contact Mobile Link Support to swap the device first.

  1. Log in to the Mobile Link app.
  2. Tap the generator card.
  3. Under Settings, tap Wi-Fi Configuration.
  4. When prompted with “Disconnect from Bluetooth?”, tap No, stay connected.
  5. Tap the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to.
    1. If you do not see the network, tap Refresh list of available networks.
  6. Enter your Wi-Fi network password.
  7. Re-enter the Wi-Fi network password to confirm. (Tap the Show icon to verify the password if needed.)
  8. Tap Save.
  9. Wait for the pop-up “Saving Wi-Fi information. This should only take a minute.”
  10. If successful, you will return to the Wi-Fi Configuration screen showing the configured Wi-Fi network.

Notes

  • To remove a configured network, tap Remove Wi-Fi Configuration from the Wi-Fi Configuration screen.
  • Wi-Fi is a fallback in case a cellular connection cannot be established. End users cannot manually choose Wi-Fi if a cellular signal is available.

Procedure: Set up Wi-Fi in the Field Pro App (installers)

  1. Log in with your Field Pro credentials.
  2. Tap Work on a Home Standby Generator.
  3. Select the customer’s generator serial number.
  4. Press the Service Mode button on the generator control panel.
  5. In the app, tap Continue on the Service Mode screen.
  6. Under Modify the default settings, tap Wi-Fi Configuration.
  7. When prompted that the device is not connected to a network, tap Configure Wi-Fi connection.
  8. Tap the customer’s network name from the available networks list.
  9. Enter the customer’s Wi-Fi password and re-enter it to confirm. Tap the Show icon in each field to verify the password, then tap Save.
  10. Wait for the pop-up “Saving Wi-Fi information. This should only take a minute.”
  11. If successful, the default settings page will show that Wi-Fi has been configured.

Having issues?

  • Verify the Connectivity Cellular Accessory device is linked to your Mobile Link account and added to the correct generator. If the device is not linked, the Wi-Fi Configuration option may not be available.
