What is a Generac independent authorized service dealer?

A Generac Independent Authorized Service Dealer (IASD) is a dealer authorized by Generac Power Systems to perform warranty work on their generators.

Why should homeowners work with a Generac IASD?

Customers should work with an Independent Authorized Service Dealer (IASD) authorized by Generac Power Systems to service their backup system because IASDs have been trained and certified by Generac to perform maintenance and warranty repair work on their generators. They have the necessary knowledge, skills, and tools to diagnose and repair any issues with the generator, helping make sure that it is running at peak performance and reliability.

Using an untrained or uncertified technician may result in improper maintenance or repairs, which can lead to further damage to the generator or even safety hazards. Additionally, using an uncertified technician may compromise the generator's warranty, leaving the customer responsible for any repair costs.

Only Generac IASDs can perform warranty repairs and submit warranty claims. For more information on warranty coverage and process and generator diagnosis, see the following articles:

Generac dealer classifications

Generac dealers offer various levels of service based on the certifications their staff actively maintains. Generac IASDs may fall into one or more of the below classifications:

My generator was just installed, but there was an issue with the installation. What do I do?

If the generator was installed by a contractor, an electrician, or even a Generac authorized installer, but the issue cannot be corrected, the generator will need to be professionally inspected and diagnosed by a Generac authorized service dealer. Generac authorized service dealers have an additional level of certification that Generac authorized installers do not have.

Depending on the problem, submitting a warranty claim through an IASD may be required. See here to learn more about the warranty process: How do I submit a warranty claim for my Generac generator?

Can all Generac IASDs diagnose and perform warranty repairs on air-cooled AND Liquid-cooled residential home standby generators?

No, air-cooled and liquid-cool units require separate specialized training and certification. Not all Generac IASDs are certified to service both types. To ensure proper support, contact the Generac IASD directly to confirm whether they have trained liquid-cooled technicians available. For information about the different tiers of dealer designations, see: What are the different dealer designations for Generac service dealers?

How does a homeowner contact an IASD?

The dealer lookup tool on Generac.com can provide contact information for a nearby service dealer. For more information, see the following article, How Can I Find a Generac Service Dealer in My Area?

How does a technician become an IASD?

To become a certified Generac Independent Authorized Service Dealer (IASD), a technician must first apply to become a dealer with Generac Power Systems. Once approved as a dealer, they will need to complete Generac's service technicians training program. This program includes both online and hands-on training and covers topics such as installation, maintenance, and repair of Generac generators. Once they have completed the training program, they will need to pass a certification exam to become a certified IASD.
