Generac cold weather accessories

Environment

This article applies to Generac cold weather accessories designed for specific air-cooled and liquid-cooled home standby generators.

  • Generac Next Generation Series 10–28 kW air-cooled standby generators.
  • Generac Guardian Series 10–26 kW air-cooled standby generators (2017 to present).
  • This article partially applies to the 7.5 kW PowerPact. PowerPact cold weather accessories are provided in the Cold Weather Kit (part number 6808-1).

Accessory part numbers can vary by product series. See each section for series-specific details.

Overview

What types of cold weather accessories are available?

Air-cooled home standby cold weather accessories

Battery pad warmer

Battery pad warmer

Purpose: Helps maintain battery temperature to support starting performance in extreme cold.

Why it's helpful:

    • Batteries can lose efficiency or freeze in extreme cold, reducing starting power.
    • Adding warmth supports reliable starts and can extend battery usability in cold weather.
  • Compatible with units manufactured from 2008–present.
  • Not necessary for AGM-style batteries when used with Guardian-series generators. These are recommended for use with AGM batteries for Next Generation models.
  • Recommended for regions regularly experiencing temperatures below 0 °F.
  • Part numbers: G0071010 (Guardian Series), G0072110 (Next Generation Series). For 7.5 kW PowerPact units, this item is included in the Cold Weather Kit (part number 6808-1).

Oil filter warmer (oil warmer)

Oil filter warmer

Purpose: Helps keep engine oil flowing by reducing the chance of thickening around the oil filter in cold temperatures.

Why it's helpful:

    • In freezing conditions, engine oil can become more viscous, making circulation harder.
    • A warm oil filter supports smoother oil flow, reducing engine strain during starts.
  • Compatible with units manufactured from 2008–present.
  • Part numbers: G0071020 (Guardian Series), G0071021 (Next Generation Series).

Breather warmer

Breather warmer

Purpose: Helps prevent ice formation in the breather system and maintains proper airflow/venting.

Why it's helpful:

    • Moisture can freeze in sub-zero temperatures, causing blockages and performance issues.
    • Added heat reduces ice buildup risk to help maintain airflow in extreme cold.
  • Suitable for extremely cold climates where heavy icing occurs.
  • Compatible with units manufactured from 2008–present.
  • Part numbers: G0071030 (Guardian Series), G0071032 (Next Generation Series).

Liquid-cooled home standby cold weather accessories

Consult the unit’s service documentation or an IASD for liquid-cooled accessory options and compatibility.

  • Regions where winter temperatures routinely fall below 32 °F.
  • Extreme-cold areas with regular sub-zero conditions or heavy icing.

Who can install the cold weather kit?

  • In addition to installing a battery with higher CCA (cold cranking amps), cold weather accessories are recommended in regions where temperatures regularly fall below 32 °F (0 °C).
  • When installing any cold weather item, replace engine oil with either Generac 5W-20 full synthetic oil or 5W-30 full synthetic oil.
  • Connection points vary by model. Consult the owner’s manual for complete instructions or use the dealer locator to contact a Generac service dealer for installation help.
  • Accessory thermostats typically switch ON at 40 °F (4 °C) and OFF at 55 °F (13 °C).

Why are these accessories helpful in cold weather?

  • Improve starting performance and reduce mechanical strain in low temperatures.
  • Help maintain proper lubrication, airflow, and battery readiness.

Which units are compatible with cold weather kits?

Compatibility varies by model, production year, and controller. Connections may differ for older, non-Nexus/Evolution panels. For controller-specific or legacy model guidance, contact an IASD or Generac Customer Support (888-436-3722).

AGM batteries and battery pad warmers

Battery warmers are not recommended with AGM-style batteries when used with Guardian-series units. When used with Next Generation standby generators, battery pad warmers for AGM-style batteries are recommended.

Where can I purchase a cold weather kit?

  • Use the dealer locator to find a local Generac dealer.
  • Ordertree and other retailers may carry individual accessories by part number.
