Portable generator sound levels

Generac portable generators feature a low-tone muffler straight from the factory. Generac does not offer a kit or recommend making any modifications to the generator or exhaust system, as doing so can void the warranty and UL listing. The exact decibel rating for portable generators is not provided due to the many variables affect how loud they can be: How Loud is my Portable Generator?

Managing generator volume

• To manage a portable generator's sound output, we recommend keeping up on preventative maintenance: How Do I Maintain My Generac Portable Generator?
• When using a portable generator, it's important to only power essential appliances to reduce load, which also reduces sound levels.
• Only operate your generator in an open, unobstructed location.
• If your generator has an economy mode, use it.

We do not recommend a generator enclosure, or a running cover of any kind, as this presents a safety issue:
