Why does Mobile Link display an “Error while executing a flow” message?

Mobile Link may display an “Error while executing a flow” message when it cannot complete an account-related action. This has been reported most often when changing a Mobile Link login email address, but it can also occur while signing in or requesting a verification code.

Environment

This article applies to:

  • Mobile Link for Generators on iOS and Android devices
  • The Mobile Link website
  • Mobile Link login email changes, account sign-in, and verification-code requests

Issue or question

One of the following messages may appear while completing an account action:

  • There was an error while executing a flow.
  • Error Executing Flow
  • There was a problem while executing a flow.

What does this error mean?

The message means Mobile Link could not complete the requested account action. It occurs primarily when attempting to change the login email address, but it may also appear during sign-in or verification-code workflows.

When changing a login email address, one possible cause is that the requested email address is already associated with an existing account. Account configuration can vary, particularly for customers who also use ecobee, so follow the applicable troubleshooting steps below before creating, deleting, or changing another account.

Note: Do not create a second Mobile Link account or delete an existing Mobile Link or ecobee account as a troubleshooting step. Doing so can create additional account or product-registration issues.

If the error occurs while changing your login email address

If the error appears while updating the email address used to sign in to Mobile Link, complete the following checks:

1. Verify that the new email address was entered correctly.
2. Confirm whether the new email address is already being used to sign in to an existing Mobile Link or ecobee account.
3. If the email address is associated with both Mobile Link and ecobee, review the Mobile Link sign-in update before making additional account changes.
4. Review How can I manage and update my Mobile Link account information? and try the login email update again.
5. If the error continues, contact Mobile Link Support. The account may require a manual correction that cannot be completed through self-service.

What to have ready if Mobile Link Support must change your email address

If Mobile Link Support asks you to submit a request to have the login email address changed, be prepared to provide:

If the error occurs while signing in or requesting a verification code

If the error appears while signing in or requesting a verification code, try the following:

1. In the Mobile Link app, tap Sign In, not Get Started. Selecting Get Started begins account creation and should not be used when a Mobile Link account already exists.
2. Try signing in through the Mobile Link website instead of the mobile app.
3. If you have Mobile Link and ecobee accounts that use the same email address, try the password used for the ecobee account. Following the April 2026 sign-in update, these accounts use a unified login. See Mobile Link sign-in update for more information.
4. If you are having trouble receiving or using a verification code, see What if I didn’t receive the verification code?.
5. If the error continues, review Mobile Link sign-in troubleshooting or contact Mobile Link Support.
