Wi-Fi keeps disconnecting

Wi-Fi networks can suffer from many failure points, and you may not notice this until you are proactively monitoring something that is connected to it (the generator is a great example). In some scenarios, you may notice that your generator is not able to maintain a stable Wi-Fi connection with your home's Wi-Fi network.

Important: Stay connected to the MLG network during setup. If a captive Wi-Fi portal appears or a "no internet" message appears, complete the prompts in the portal. When should I contact my ISP?

There can be a variety of reasons this may occur, including but not limited to the items below. If you have concerns about your generator (or other devices) not maintaining a connection, we urge you to work with your internet service provider (ISP). Some causes are outside of the ISP’s control; however, they can identify certain issues (like line problems or router/modem malfunctions) that could be contributing factors.

Mobile Link connection details

• Mobile Link checks in with your internet service and router every 15 minutes.
• If the router and internet service fail to respond, Mobile Link will continue trying every 15 minutes.
• If no response is received within 3 hours, Mobile Link will switch from online to offline status.
• If enabled, the no signal notification is sent after 48 hours of no response from the router.

Common causes of disconnection

• Internet outage
• Mesh networks 
• Router has reached the maximum number of connected devices
• Heavy bandwidth usage from other devices
  • Security systems (e.g., Ring, Blink)
  • Streaming video or audio
• Signal changes or fluctuations
  • Run regular speed tests and share data with your internet provider
• Changes in physical signal blockers, including:
  • Metal (including metal blinds)
  • Doors and furniture
  • Walls or buildings (especially concrete, steel, and brick)
  • Water (e.g., fish tanks)
  • Nearby routers or modems
• Wi-Fi extenders may power down due to inactivity (power-saving settings)
• Location on the internet line (beginning, middle, or end)
  • If you are in the middle or end of the line, devices ahead of you may impact your connection
