Environment

This information applies to Generac home standby generators.

Dedicated fuel lines

The generator should be plumbed directly from the fuel source, and not off the end of an existing low-pressure system. A dedicated fuel line ensures that the generator will have enough fuel to start and run. This also ensures that the fuel for other appliances is sufficient. Failure to install a dedicated line for the generator can cause issues such as the generator not starting, running rough, inability to support a load, or other appliances not functioning (even extinguishing pilot lights.)
 

What if my generator shares a propane line with other appliances?

If another appliance requires maintenance and shares the propane fuel line, be sure to turn the generator off by pressing the OFF button on the control panel. For safe measure, owners can also pull the 7.5 amp fuse. Note that most appliances will have their own dedicated fuel shut-off.
