How to activate Basic Mobile Link monitoring

Basic Mobile Link monitoring allows owners of compatible home standby generators to view generator information without purchasing a Premium subscription. To begin monitoring, create a Mobile Link account, add the generator, connect it through a supported Wi-Fi or cellular device, and select the Basic plan.

Environment

This article applies to compatible home standby generators with a supported Mobile Link connectivity device, including onboard Wi-Fi, an external Wi-Fi/Ethernet device, a 4G LTE device, or a Connectivity Cellular Accessory. Basic monitoring does not apply to stand-alone Generac fuel monitors.

Generator and connectivity-device compatibility varies by controller and model. See the Mobile Link Wi-Fi, cellular, and LTE device compatibility guide before adding or replacing a connectivity device.

Next Generation Series generators (2025–present): Generator status viewing is currently supported only through the Mobile Link mobile app for iOS or Android. The Mobile Link website can be used for account and subscription management, but it does not display generator status for Next Generation Series generators.

Connectivity Cellular Accessory

The Connectivity Cellular Accessory is an option for compatible generators that need cellular connectivity or experience ongoing Wi-Fi connectivity issues. It can use multiple carrier networks, and both Basic and Premium cellular plans are available for this device. What features are included in Basic monitoring?

• View the current generator status. See How to view generator status history in Mobile Link.
  • Next Generation Series owners must use the Mobile Link mobile app to view generator status. Browser-based status viewing is not currently supported for these generators.
• Access generator manuals and other product documents within Mobile Link. See How do I find my generator’s manuals, parts lists, and specification sheets in Mobile Link?
• Receive a monthly email summary and use Mobile Link maintenance tracking. To review maintenance information, see Viewing maintenance history in the Mobile Link app.

Sign up for Basic monitoring

1. Create a Mobile Link account. See Full Mobile Link account setup and device enrollment process.
2. Add the home standby generator using its serial number and Mobile Link device information. See How do I add a new generator to my Mobile Link account?
3. After the generator is added, continue to the subscription-selection screen.
4. Select Basic to finish enrollment without purchasing a Premium subscription.

Manage or change the subscription

After enrollment, the subscription can be reviewed or changed through the Mobile Link website or the Mobile Link mobile app. Website access for account and subscription management does not change the model-specific monitoring limitations described in the Environment section.
