How to view generator status and status history in Mobile Link

Mobile Link displays status information received from the generator control panel. This article explains how to view the generator’s current status and status history using the Mobile Link mobile app or, for supported generator models, a web browser.

Environment

This article applies to generators with supported controllers that are registered and currently connected to a Mobile Link account.

• Mobile app: The mobile-app instructions apply to supported generator models, including Next Generation Series generators.
• Web browser: The web-browser instructions apply to Guardian Series, Protector Series, and other supported generator lines. Next Generation Series generators (10 kW–28 kW, 2025–present) do not currently support status or status-history viewing through app.mobilelinkgen.com. Owners of these generators should use the Mobile Link mobile app for iOS or Android.

Mobile Link generator status details

• To display status information, the generator must be added to a registered Mobile Link account:

  • For Wi-Fi-enabled generators: How do I connect my generator to a home Wi-Fi network?
  • For 4G LTE-enabled generators: How do I connect my generator to 4G LTE?
• Mobile Link displays status information while the generator has a reliable Wi-Fi or 4G LTE connection.
• The available status information and telemetry depend on the generation of the generator controller. See Which generator controllers are compatible with Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or 4G LTE?
• If Mobile Link is unavailable, status and alarm history can also be reviewed at the generator control panel. See How do I check the alarm log on my generator’s control panel?
• Beginning with Mobile Link release 3.13, status history also displays fault and alarm codes reported by the generator.

Check the current generator status

Mobile app

Tap the generator card to open the generator details page. The current generator status appears above the generator.

Web browser

The following instructions apply only to generator models that support status viewing in the Mobile Link web app. Next Generation Series generator owners should use the mobile-app instructions above.

When Mobile Link is opened in a web browser, the current status appears on the generator card.

Click the generator card to open its details. Click the caret in the status bar to view the date and time the generator entered its current status.

View status history

View status history using the iOS or Android mobile app

1. Launch the Mobile Link mobile app.
2. Tap Dashboard in the lower-left corner.
   
   
3. Tap the generator card.
   
   
4. Tap Status history. Historical generator statuses will appear. Beginning with Mobile Link release 3.13, this section also displays fault and alarm codes reported by the generator.
   
   

View status history using a web browser

These steps apply only to generator models that support status-history viewing in the Mobile Link web app. Next Generation Series generators do not currently support this feature in a web browser.

1. Open app.mobilelinkgen.com in a web browser, then sign in.
2. Click the card for the generator whose status history you want to view.
3. Click Status History in the menu on the left. The historical status information will appear.

Export status history

Status history can be exported to a CSV file from the Mobile Link web app, but it cannot be exported from the mobile app. Because Next Generation Series generators do not currently support web-based status history, the export option is not currently available for these generators. Common generator statuses

These common statuses may appear on the generator control panel, in Mobile Link status history, or in a notification from Mobile Link.

• Ready to Run: The generator is in AUTO mode and ready to provide backup power.
• Switched to OFF: The generator control panel is in OFF mode. To return the generator to automatic operation, press the green Ready to Run button.
• Firmware Updated, boot to Auto: The generator completed a firmware update and returned to AUTO mode.
• Firmware Update, boot to OFF: The generator completed a firmware update and entered OFF mode.
• Running via Wireless Transmission: The generator is enabled for a 2-wire start configuration.
• Exercising: The generator is completing its scheduled exercise cycle to help maintain readiness. The exercise cycle should last approximately five minutes. See What is a generator exercise?
• Running due to Utility Loss: The generator detected a utility outage and is running to provide backup power to the home.
• Stopped due to Emergency Stop: An auxiliary shutdown switch has been placed in the shutdown position. Some generators have more than one auxiliary shutdown switch. See Where is the auxiliary shutdown switch on my home standby generator?
• Running in Manual: The blue MANUAL button was pressed at the generator control panel. The generator will continue running in manual mode until it is shut down.
• Stopped due to Overcrank: The generator attempted to start but was unsuccessful. This condition is commonly related to the fuel supply or battery. See What does it mean when my generator displays Overcrank, code 1100?
• Charger Missing AC: The generator is not detecting the primary AC source used to maintain the battery. This condition may be related to the T1 wire, the T1 fuse, or a utility outage. See What does it mean when my generator displays Charger Missing AC, code 2780?
• Inspect Battery: This preset maintenance reminder appears annually based on the generator activation date. Check the battery voltage and clean the battery terminals if corrosion is present.
• Schedule A or Schedule B: This preset maintenance reminder appears based on generator age or operating hours, whichever occurs first. Consult the owner’s manual for the required maintenance.

Troubleshooting

Use the following resources when Mobile Link displays an incorrect status, status history does not update, or the displayed time is incorrect.
