How to prepare a generator for offline access in Field Pro

This process is required to prepare for an installation or service visit to a generator location without network connectivity (no cellular or Wi-Fi connection). Offline Mode preparation allows you to securely connect to, commission, and update firmware versions on a generator without an active internet connection for a limited period.

Environment

Applies to Next Generation Series Home Standby Generators serviced or commissioned with the Generac Field Pro mobile application when the job site will not have Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity.

Before you begin

  • Ensure you have a network connection before visiting the offline site.
  • Preparation in Field Pro must be done while connected to the internet.

  1. Open Field Pro and tap Work on a Home Standby Generator from the main menu.
  2. Select Prepare for a Future Visit.
  3. Tap the + icon or select the Prepare your first generator button.
  4. Search for the generator by serial number, then confirm the connectivity accessory serial number.
  5. If the generator is not registered, tap Register Now and complete the registration process.
  6. Once prepared, review the access window displayed on screen. This shows how long you can interact with the generator offline. The maximum window is 48 hours. You can connect to and work on the generator without a network connection for the duration of the access window. If the window expires, repeat the preparation process while connected to the internet.
  7. If needed, refresh the access window closer to your visit to maximize available offline time by selecting the unit from your prepared generators list. 
IMPORTANT: Preparations only apply to your user account and your mobile device. If multiple technicians will access the generator offline, each person must prepare separately.
IMPORTANT: Installers and technicians must disable Service Mode and return the generator to AUTO after service is complete or the generator will not start automatically.

After completing the workflow above, the generator will be ready for access via Field Pro in an offline environment by following the standard Connect to a generator now flow.

Additional details

  • This process downloads all firmware updates for the generator hardware to your device and applies those updates when you connect to the generator via Field Pro on-site.
  • Generators must be registered before they can be automatically activated and set into AUTO mode.
