How to view and update firmware versions for PowerZone 200 controllers

This article applies to the Field Pro app used with Next Generation series generators equipped with the PowerZone 200 controller.

Viewing firmware version information

Once a generator has been set up in the Field Pro app, you can view firmware version information by following these steps:

1. Connect to the generator via Bluetooth in Field Pro.
2. Tap Hardware / firmware versions to view version information for the controller, ECU, and Connectivity Accessory.

How firmware is updated

• Firmware updates are primarily managed by Generac's firmware over-the-air (FOTA) system (automatically) whenever the Connectivity Accessory is connected via cellular or Wi-Fi.
• Alternatively, if required firmware updates are available when you connect to the generator via Bluetooth in Field Pro and they have not yet been applied by the over-the-air process, Field Pro will prompt you to update to the latest required firmware versions upon connecting.
• For offline scenarios where the Connectivity Accessory cannot connect to a network via cellular or Wi-Fi and reception is not available for use with Field Pro, follow the guided Prepare for a future visit workflow from the Let's get started page in Field Pro to update firmware versions.

Requirements for automatic, over-the-air (FOTA) updates

• Active network connection on the Connectivity Accessory.
• Service Mode OFF on the generator.

Note: The Connectivity Accessory shows a solid green LED when operating normally. If it blinks twice repeatedly, it does not have a network connection. The controller's blue LED illuminates when Service Mode is ON.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the firmware update take? Approximately 5 to 10 minutes if the cellular signal is good. Updates can take longer if the cellular signal is weak. To confirm completion, periodically select the Search Again button to refresh the generator list. Once the firmware update is complete, the serial number will show up in the list without the yellow triangle and the "Firmware update in progress" message.

If the firmware update in progress message remains for more than 20 minutes, contact Generac Customer Support at 1-800-462-8352.

Can I force an update to a specific generator? No. Updates are delivered automatically when the generator is detected online. There is no force-update capability.

What if my unit is in Service Mode? Turn Service Mode OFF to allow the update to apply. If Service Mode is ON, the update will not execute.
