Inspecting the Battery

This article applies to 10 kW - 26 kW Guardian series generators manufactured after 2017. Maintenance information for all generator models can be found in a generator's user manual. To inspect the battery:
1. Press the OFF button to shut down the generator, then lift the lid and remove the front panel.
2. Remove the 7.5A fuse from the control panel.
3. Remove the intake side panel. See the How Do I Remove the Generator Side Panel? article for more information.
4. Disconnect the white battery charger cable.

5. Inspect the battery posts and cables for tightness and corrosion. Tighten and clean them as necessary.
6. Unsealed batteries only:
- Completely disconnect the battery, removing the negative battery cable first.
- Check the battery fluid level and, if necessary, fill it with distilled water only. DO NOT use tap water. A qualified service dealer can verify the state of the charge and condition. See the How Can I Find a Generac Service Dealer in My Area? article for more information.
7. Connect the positive battery cable, then the negative battery cable.
8. Connect the battery charger cable.
9. Install the intake side panel.
10. Install the 7.5A fuse.
11 Install the front panel and close the generator lid.
To reset the alarm/indicator to check the battery, turn the unit OFF, press Enter twice, and put the unit back to auto. This should clear the maintenance alarm and get rid of the yellow maintenance light. However, if the option to check the battery condition is not available in the maintenance menu, it is recommended to contact a dealer for further assistance.
