Adding a home standby generator to the ecobee by Generac app

The ecobee by Generac app can bring your Generac home standby generator into the same home as your ecobee and PWRcell devices. This article explains what must be set up first and how your generator is added to an ecobee home.

Environment

Generac home standby generators that are enrolled and registered to the generator owner's Mobile Link account
Customers using the ecobee by Generac app who want to add their generator to an ecobee home
Customers who use the same email to log into Mobile Link and ecobee by Generac

Note: This process adds an already-enrolled generator to an ecobee home. It does not enroll the generator in Mobile Link or establish the generator's network connection.

Before you begin

Before your generator can be added to the ecobee by Generac app, the following requirements must be met:

Your generator is enrolled and registered in Mobile Link
Your Mobile Link account email matches your ecobee by Generac account email
The ecobee by Generac app is installed and you are signed in

Note: The postal code saved with your generator in Mobile Link is used to help match the generator to an ecobee home. If the postal codes do not match, you can still select the correct home manually.

Add your generator

1. Open the ecobee by Generac app and sign in.
2. The app checks your account for home standby generators associated with your Mobile Link.
3. If the app finds one generator and the generator's postal code matches an ecobee home, the generator is automatically added to that home. The app displays a notification confirming that the generator was added.
4. If the app finds multiple generators, or if the generator's postal code does not match an ecobee home, follow the on-screen prompts to select a home for the generator.
5. Review the generator serial number and address shown in the app to identify the correct generator.
6. Select an existing ecobee home or create a new home for the generator.
7. If you have more than one generator, repeat the home-selection process for each generator.

How your generator is matched to a home

One generator with a matching postal code

If your account has one generator and its postal code matches the postal code for an ecobee home, the app automatically adds the generator to that home. A notification or banner confirms that the generator was added.

Multiple generators or a postal code that does not match

If your account has more than one generator, or the postal code for a generator does not match an ecobee home, the app asks you where each generator should be added. You can select an existing home or create a new home.

Adding more than one generator

An ecobee home can have only one generator. If your Mobile Link account contains multiple generators, each generator must be assigned to a separate ecobee home.

Generator address information from Mobile Link may not always exactly match the address stored for an ecobee home. Use the serial number and address shown during setup to identify each generator before selecting its home.

Who can see the generator after setup?

The primary account holder should complete the add-to-home process. After the generator is added, other members of that ecobee home can also see the generator.

If your generator does not appear

If the ecobee by Generac app does not find your generator, check the following:

Confirm that the generator is already enrolled and registered in your Mobile Link account: How do I add a new generator to my Mobile Link account?
Confirm that you are signed in to the ecobee by Generac app with the same email address associated with your Mobile Link profile. To update your Mobile Link account email, see How can I manage and update my Mobile Link account information?
If your account contains multiple generators or the postal code does not match, follow the manual home-selection prompts instead of expecting the generator to be added automatically
Use the serial number and address shown in the app to confirm you are selecting the intended generator
