Accessories are not covered by the generator warranty, and typically have their own separate warranty coverage. Examples include:

• Smart Management Modules ("Load shedders"): What is the Warranty on the Generac Load Manager (Formerly known as Smart Management Module (SMM)?)
• Mobile Link devices have their own warranty: What Is the Warranty On a Mobile Link Device?

Generator and routine maintenance

• Costs of normal maintenance
• Rental equipment used while warranty generator repairs are being performed.
• Products that are modified without Generac authorization, including enclosing a generator in a secondary enclosure.
• Starting batteries, fuses, light bulbs, or engine fluid

Environmental conditions & damage

• Damage caused by accidents, shipping, handling, or improper storage
• Damage caused by the use of improper fuel
• Damage due to using non-Generac parts

Note: While your warranty cannot cover these items, some of these can be covered under your homeowner’s insurance policy. Be sure to inform your insurance provider when you purchase a home standby generator so that it can be included in the policy

What will compromise my generator's warranty?

Improper generator use and installation practices

The following installation practices and uses will compromise the warranty of a Generac home standby generator:

• If the generator is used as Prime Power (i.e. Where no utility power is present such as hunting cabins, etc.)
• If the generator is physically disconnected and moved from its original installation site
• If the generator is used to charge backup battery systems for alternative energy sources (this does not apply to the EcoGen).
• If the installation is improper and/or violates code (Clearance requirements, wiring, fuel supply, etc.) See the What Should I Know About Clearance Requirements When Installing My Generator? article for more information.
• If the original design of the generator is modified (extending the exhaust, etc.)
• If the generator is installed indoors.

FAQ

How do I find maintenance records for warranty claims?

Proof of performance of scheduled maintenance must be available for warranty claims.

Depending on who performed the maintenance, maintenance records may be accessed in a variety of ways:

• If a Generac dealer has performed maintenance, they may have records on file detailing a generator's maintenance history.
• Generator owners who perform their own maintenance must keep their own detailed records of completed maintenance tasks, in digital form or on paper.
• Maintenance can be logged and stored within the Mobile Link app: Viewing, Adding, Deleting, & Exporting Maintenance Schedule Records in Mobile Link

Is the control panel covered under the warranty?

If I move the generator to a new address, will this affect the warranty?

How can I get a printed certificate of my warranty?

• Contact Generac customer support at 888-436-3722 or https://www.generac.com/about/contact-us/
• Please have your name, address, and generator serial number: Where Can I Find the Serial Number on My Air or Liquid-Cooled Standby Generator?
• If your warranty was purchased through your dealer as part of a promotional program offered by that dealer, you may need to reach out to your local dealer for warranty information.

How can I get reimbursed for a repair if a technician replaces a part?

• Warranty reimbursement applies only to eligible warranty repair work performed and submitted by a Generac Independent Authorized Service Dealer (IASD).
• Repair work completed by a technician, electrical contractor, or other service provider who is not a Generac IASD cannot be submitted to Generac for warranty reimbursement.
• For more information about diagnosis, warranty eligibility, claim submission, and repair, see How does the home standby generator warranty process work?

Routine maintenance, such as changing the oil and oil filter, is not covered by the generator warranty and is not reimbursed as warranty repair work. Generator owners may perform scheduled maintenance themselves if they are comfortable doing so or arrange for a service provider to perform it, but they are ultimately responsible for generator maintenance costs. Keep detailed maintenance records because proof of scheduled maintenance may be required for warranty claims.

Can my dealer charge me for maintenance performed during a warranty visit?

Maintenance is not covered under the generator warranty, even when it is performed during the same visit as a warranty repair. If a dealer performs maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, spark plug replacement, or air filter service, during a warranty service visit, those charges are the responsibility of the generator owner. Questions or disputes about maintenance charges should be addressed directly with the servicing dealer.
