Commissioning a generator in the Field Pro app
Commissioning is a required step to operate a generator in AUTO mode. For newer models with a Power Zone 200 controller, commissioning is completed using the Field Pro mobile app.
Environment
This article is for installers who need to commission a generator with a Power Zone 200 controller using the Field Pro mobile app. This setup occurs after the physical installation of the generator has been completed.
Before you begin
- Verify the generator is Off.
- Verify the generator is in Service Mode.
- Verify the Connectivity Accessory (Cellular device) is installed and powered on:
Important: Installers and technicians must disable Service Mode when finishing the job or leaving the site.
Connect via Bluetooth
- Tap Connect to a Generator Now.
- "Searching for nearby generators" will appear.
- If prompted, allow Bluetooth access.
- Confirm the generator's serial number and connect.
- Select your serial number.
- "Connecting to the generator via Bluetooth" will appear.
- "Connected to Serial Number" will appear once successful.
- If the generator is not in Service Mode, you will be prompted to enable it.
- Select the fuel type.
- From the dashboard, tap Setup and configure generator to begin commissioning.
Registration
The Field Pro app will check if the generator is registered. If it is already registered, this step will be skipped.
- Registration is required to complete commissioning and enable AUTO mode.
- Tap Register the generator to continue.
- Enter the site and customer information as prompted.
Configure generator settings
Step 2 of commissioning involves confirming or adjusting the generator’s default settings.
Settings include:
- Fuel type
- Cold Smart Start
- Exercise settings
- Voltage settings
- Wi-Fi settings (optional)
The radio automatically connects via cellular by default. This may take 10–15 minutes.
Wi-Fi can be configured if cellular is unavailable. Date, time, and time zone are set automatically through the Connectivity Accessory or from the user's phone if the Connectivity Accessory cannot connect to Cellular or Wi-Fi.
System test
Step 3 is the System Test. Tests are initiated in the app and performed by the controller. Results are displayed in the app. If a test fails, the app will guide you with troubleshooting.
- ECU
- Oil level
- Battery voltage
- Utility voltage
Activation
Step 4 is to confirm generator activation.
The Connectivity Accessory will activate the generator automatically via cellular or Wi-Fi once registered.
If no internet is available, the Field Pro app will activate the unit via Bluetooth after registration is complete.
Note: Installers no longer need to enter an activation code.
Once this step is complete, the generator can be put in AUTO mode by selecting the AUTO option on the generator keypad.
Final steps
- The Generator Setup Complete screen will appear.
- Review the information displayed.
- Tap View generator details.
- To disconnect from Bluetooth, use the option in the top-right corner of the app.
Important: Always disable Service Mode when finishing the job or leaving the site.
