Maintenance kit procedure

This section provides detailed guides on changing the oil and oil filter, air filter, spark plugs, and inline filter, as applicable. Not all maintenance kits include inline filters or oil, and not every generator model requires all steps. It is essential to consult the owner's manual for specific instructions tailored to your generator model to ensure correct maintenance practices.

Note:

  • Information such as oil capacity, spark plug gap, and torque specifications can vary widely from model to model and is not listed here. Please refer to your owner's manual for specific details relevant to your model.
  • Before performing any maintenance on your generator, make sure the controller is turned OFF, the negative terminal on the batter is removed, and the battery charger is disabled.

Warning: Hot oil may cause burns. Allow engine to cool before draining oil. Avoid prolonged or repeated Skin Exposure with used oil. Thoroughly wash exposed areas with soap.

1. After the engine cools down, drain the engine oil into a suitable container by pulling the drain hose (if equipped) free from its retaining clip and removing the drain hose cap. If not equipped with oil drain hose, simply remove drain plug.

2. Drain the engine oil into a suitable container.

3. When the oil has been drained, replace and tighten the drain plug or drain hose cap and place the hose into it clip.

4. If equipped with oil filter heater, remove by pulling on perimeter of heating element.
Note: DO NOT pull on wire or connector!

5. If equipped, remove the oil filter and allow it to drain into a suitable container.

6. Clean the seal area around the oil filter adapter; apply a light coat of clean engine oil to the gasket on the new filter and screw the new filter onto the adapter until the gasket lightly touches; tighten the filter an additional 3/4 turn.

7. Wipe filter to clean off any oil or debris. Reinstall filter heater (if originally equipped).

8. Refill the unit with the recommended oil (refer to the owner's manual) to the full mark on the dipstick., Do not overfill.

9. Start the engine and check for oil leaks.

10. Shut the engine down and let it sit for 5 minutes, then re-check the oil level and adjust it as necessary to reach the full mark on the dipstick.

11. Dispose of the oil and filter in accordance with applicable regulations.

Change the air cleaner

1. Locate the air box (refer to the owner's manual, maintenance section).

2. Remove the clips and cover to the air box. Note how the air cleaner element is positioned in the air box.

3. Remove the air cleaner element. Clean any dust or debris from inside the air box. Place the new filter element into the air box in the same orientation as the one removed.

4. Replace the air box cover and secure the clips.

Change the inline fuel filter (not applicable on LP and natural gas generator systems).

1. Locator the inline fuel filter and loosen the clamps on the inlet and outlet hoses. Note the direction of flow indicated on the filter housing. Remove the old filter and dispose of it properly.

2. Connect the inlet and outlet hoses to the new filter. Make sure the flow direction of the new filter is correct (pointing from inlet hose to outlet hose).

3. Re-install the clamps and tighten them down (if applicable).

Change the spark plug(s)

1. Rotate and remove the spark plug boot plug wire from the spark plug.

2. Clean the area around the spark plug where it enters the cylinder head. Use low pressure air to remove any loose dirt and debris around the base of the spark plug.

3. Remove the old spark plug with the appropriate wrench.

4. Check and adjust the new spark plug to the recommended gap (refer to the owner's manual for correct gap).

5. Insert the new spark plug into the cylinder head and tighten with the appropriate wrench (not included).

6. Reconnect the plug wire and boot to the spark plug. Make sure the plug wire "clicks" onto the spark plug.

7. Test run the unit.
